A lot of people fear going to the dentist, majorly because of the fear of pain that dental treatments may cause. At Dental Savers Northeast, we take every possible step to minimize the pain and anxiety caused during dental treatment and that is why we use anesthesia for procedures that are painful. We always examine the medical history of our new patients to decide upon the most suitable anesthesia for use. Even though allergic reactions to anesthesia are very rare, we take every precaution to ensure that our patients are safe and the product being used is suitable to them.

Topical Anesthesia

This is a gel-based anesthesia applied to a specific area in the mouth to numb it. The area is first dried and then swabbed with the gel.
Topical anesthesia is mainly used in tooth restoration procedures since these are not very painful. It wears off quickly and is perfectly suited for procedures that do not take too much time to complete.

Topical anesthesia is also used prior to the administration of injectable anesthesia so that the patient does not feel the pain caused by the injection. They only feel a stinging sensation as the injectable anesthesia moves into the tissues.

Injectable Anesthesia

Injectable Anesthesia is used for major dental procedures such as fillings and root canals. It works by blocking the nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. The effect of injectable anesthesia can last for several hours. Though injections might be scary for a lot of people, we only inject this anesthesia when we are sure that you won’t feel it.

We use two types of injectable anesthesia: block injections and infiltration injections. Block injections can numb a large area in your mouth (like the whole right side of your upper jaw), while infiltration injections only numb the area of injection.

We also have general anesthesia for major dental procedures. Before administering anesthesia, we help you understand its effect and also what to do afterwards. We have all sorts of equipment and medication to make your dental procedure comfortable and pain-free for you.
